‘What annual traditions does your family celebrate’?
Recently my daughter came home from school with that question as her homework.
I thought it was sad that traditions were mostly considered annual like birthdays or holidays. When I thought back to my own childhood it wasn’t just the big annual moments I remembered, it was the dozens of smaller ones. Traditions I think are the shared experiences that were soooo great, they need to be re-created and re-lived. They are the little threads that make relationships special.
***
Caryn and Matt have their own traditions.
They have their own handshake annnd they save the string ties from bakery boxes to make into friendship bracelets. Okay, okay. Not exactly ‘friendship’ bracelets…but that’s what they reminded me of. Beyond their traditions, they call each other cute nicknames and have a ton of inside jokes. They smile. A lot. Not even just at the camera…at each other! They’re also witty and fabulously sarcastic in a fun way, which makes me laugh. They laugh. And they enjoy…everything.
Traditions are the big moments…but to me they are also the small ones.
Here’s hoping you have many of life’s little moments. Who know’s…they just might be the big ones.
***
Their beginning…
During the winter, Matt proposed to Caryn at this very spot and just as she said yes, it began to snow.
They had matching ones until Caryn had to go in for knee surgery the week before and she had to take them off . : (
Well, it just means they need to visit more bakeries now! Mmmmm…
It’s a staple with the Northport locals and one of their favorite places to grab breakfast together…
A fun fact about Tim’s Shipwreck Diner:
The movie, In & Out, starring Kevin Kline and Tom Selleck was filmed there! I actually remember hanging out there when I was a kid hoping to catch a glimpse of the actors.
A snuggle…
Sometimes I just break out into song when I’m shooting. I know. I’m random like that.
You know what they did? They slow danced while I sang. Sighhh.
and while we were walking out to the end of the pier it started to rain…and we had to re-scheduled the session…
which lead to another round of pics…yay!
I haven’t done one of these in a while…a frame within a frame.
Some black and white images to add to the mix…
Caryn is either laughing, making a silly face or squishing Matt. Love her. Love them!
How about a random fact?
Matt is 6 foot 6!
And I will end on this note.
It’ s just blacktop below Matt and Caryn, but to me it looks like a million stars dancing around them, doesn’t it?
M + C…I love your love.
Thank you soooo much for letting me document it.
So excited for Memorial Day weekend next year!!
p.s.
Special thanks to Autumn who brought us together!
