The Importance of a Millasecond

I can sometimes feel their breath on me.
They are standing so close that sometimes I'm restricted to even move.
I'm assuming they don't want to be in my way, so they stand behind me or rightnexttome trying to take their own shot. I get it.
It's a moment that you can never really duplicate. I wonder though, if they get it?
Are they in that moment? Do they feel what they are seeing?

After the father daughter dance, the guest asked to see the back of my camera to see my shot and compare.
When he saw the back of my camera, he replied with,
"lucky shot."
Um, but wait…weren't you touching my elbow for the same shot? Wasn't your shot 'lucky' too?

It's not that I'm in the right place. It's not that I have the right camera. It's not the post processing.
It's about being present. If you watch the beauty of a moment unfold closely, you'll actually feel the moment before you see it.
You can anticipate the pinnacle of the moment just by taking the time to observe.

Have you ever watched someone for a while? Like reallly watched someone?
Their eyes, their hands, their movements. The way they say their words, the way they hold their fingers.
Their eyebrows as their emotions change from second to second?
The way they smile and the shape of their eyes when they laugh?
Those subtle expressions for me can tell a whole story and can make or break an image.

It's holding your breath. It's waiting.

It's not just clicking the shutter and hoping for a lucky image.
It's waiting until that precise second her Daddy finally let's his guard down and his head leans upon his daughters.
It's when they share a big laugh or when he is holding back the tears.
It's when he closes his eyes and smiles and you see and feel every past memory he is recalling as he is holding her tight.

In that very moment, it's as if there isn't another person in the room. The moment feels suspended in air.

Go and give your Daddy a call and tell him how much you love him….
